Charna Island and Mubarak Village

Charna Island and Mubarak Village

Located in the Arabian Sea, this small, uninhabited island can be accessed from Mubarak Village, a fishing settlement near the Hub Power Plant on the outskirts of Karachi. Mubarak Village remains the second largest fishing village in Karachi. Bordering  the village of Gadani in Balochistan, the landscape encircles a stark contrast of golden hills and turquoise clear waters. Most of the local people are involved in fisheries. The major economic activity in the village is fishing followed by construction and community, social, and personal services. The people of Mubarak Village lead a simple life. Most of the men go fishing early in the morning and usually come back with the day’s catch by noon, when they sell it to customers from the main city centre. There are a total of 150 fishing boats in the village but only 10 of them are capable of venturing out into deep waters.
