People and languages

Pakistan’s estimated population is over 233 million people, making it the world’s fifth most populated country. Pakistan is in essence a multi-ethnic and multilingual state with a heterogeneous culture, with all of the provinces maintaining differing social morals. However, Islam is the driving force behind the unity of varying ethnic groups from different parts of the country, and has significantly shaped the values and traditions of Pakistanis.

A large Pakistani diaspora exists, especially in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada and Australia as well as in the Scandinavian nations. A large number of Pakistanis also live in the Middle East. These emigrants and their children influence Pakistan culturally and economically by travelling to Pakistan, and especially by returning or investing there.
